Optical Adder/Subtracter Using Fourier Transform and Its Application to Calculations of Distance Between Vectors-Fundamental Experiment-

Abstract

In an optical Fourier transforming system, the phase correlation of transmitted light from periodical slits as an input pattern is considered, and a method of optical addition and subtraction is proposed. Applying this method to distance calculation between input and standard vectors in vector quantization that is effective in bandwidth compression of speech signals is considered. Fundamental experiments on optical subtration are done, and a possibility of calculation is shown.
