Abstract
This paper describes the development of a new digital VTR system for home-use which provides both wide-band precision DTF (Dynamic Track Following) over a band of several hundred hertz, and noiseless high-speed search at speeds several tens of times faster than normal without picture quality deterioration.
This new system also ensures good control of recording and playback with a precision wide-band tension control, which maintains optimum contact between the head and the tape.
To provide these abilities, the system uses a pair of movable tape guide pins inserted in the tape path at both the entrance and the exit of a rotary drum with moving magnetic heads.
