Abstract
It has generally been believed that the drum, the core mechanical part of the VCR, should be firmly fixed. In an attempt to change the established drum structure, the authors have developed a new VHS VCR which employs the Dynamic Drum (DD) system. The DD system achieves noise-free pictures at any playback speeds. The following three features have been built into the DD system. (1) The tape lead is separated from the lower drum, but is in close contact with the lower drum coaxially. (2) The head drum is compensated to trace any tracks. The lead is compensated to obtain a smooth tape run. (3) When recording, two sets of fulcrums maintain the standard position of the drum.
