Abstract
An electron gun has designed with an asymmetrical main lens. A set of parallel horizontal planes placed at the exit of the main lens generates positive astigmatism with horizontally converged and vertically diverged lens action. The effect of this results in a main lens diameter in the horizontal direction of 11.1 mm and in the vertical direction of 6.7 mm, 23% larger and 33% smaller than the existing main lens, respectively. The electron gun reduces spot distortion at the screen periphery with the available dynamic voltage, making it suitable for 76cm and 86cm 120-degree 16 : 9 29.1 mm neck diameter color TV tubes.
