Abstract
To improve accuracy of picture defect detection based on the Reduced Reference framework, the authors study an adaptive control method of threshold level for detecting the local impairment caused by MPEG bitstream errors. The threshold level is adaptively controlled according to the relation between coding noise and optimum threshold level. Since the coding noise can be measured from the image features extracted by the proposed method, the optimum threshold is easily derived and this method enables more precise detection than the conventional scheme that uses a fixed level for the detection threshold.
