Abstract

The earth observation satellite is utilized for monitor of the earth environments. It is In late years the quantity of data of satellite image increased by a high-resolution sensor. Therefore a satellite must transmit a large quantity of data Transmission ability of data is decided by a physical condition of a satellite. So compression of satellite data becomes necessary. ADEOS (Advanced Earth Observing Satellite) carries high-resolution optics sensor named "AVNIR". In this case "AVNIR" data is compressed by about 10% in order to reduce the transmission data rate. By this paper, I describe the reality of compression technology in satellite image and the problems that should be solved.
