Abstract
We describe the basic characteristics and physical specifications of the new write once disc called DVD-Recordable (DVD-R) disc in the present condition. User data capacity of 3.9Gbytes perside have been technically realized, and the capacity of 4.7Gbytes per side which is equal to the capacity of the ROM disc is being developed now. The recorded DVD-R disc must be compatible with the DVD Read-Only disc (DVD-ROM and DVD-VIDEO disc) to be played back on any DVD-player. After discussing these characteristics, we describe DVD-R system architecture and linking scheme for the additional recording.
