Abstract

We discuss on the hierarchical coding scheme of fractal image coding, and apply it to color image compression. This hierarchical scheme is based on the Gaussian pyramid. Therefore, we can compress the original images effectively on the grounds of different frequency subband division of the images. This hierarchical structure results in repression of block distortion as progressive decode. Then, we consider a spatial contraction of its affine-transformation and a fractal expansion decoding of color components. By the effective compression of color components, we can obtain fairly good decoded images at 1.0 bit/pel.
