Abstract

Keeping the increase rate of the HDD storage area density, the improvement of the high TPI technology should be achieved more than that of the high BPI, because of the transfer capability of electronics, the write capability of the recording head, the magnetic thermal fluctuation and so on. So the track pitch less than 1 micron-meter demands the extreme accuracy of head positioning. One of the most important issue is the tracking accurately by the new piggyback actuator. There are three generations among piggyback actuators. Cost and manufacturability are quite tough issues.
