Abstract
Residual DC phenomenon of LC cell is explained by using not only space charge polarization in LC layer but also orientation polarization of alignment layers and LC layer, then LC materials with negative dielectric anisotropy is evaluated based on this model. From simulation for orientation polarization annd experiments, it was found that residual DC by orientation polarization become considerable when specific resistively of alignment material is greater than 1.0×10^<14>[Ωcm]. Then properties of LC materials necessary for low residual DC values are discussed for various values of specific resistively of alignment layer.
