Abstract
In this paper, a fiber-optic 60GHz-band millimeter(mm)-wave downlink system using external modulation technique is investigated. We prepared the fiber-optic 60GHz-band mm-wave downlink testbed which consists of a control station, a standard single-mode fiber (SMF), a base station and a wireless terminal. To modulate the laser output with 60GHz-band mm-wave signals directly, a specially designed electro-absorption (EA) modulator which works with high-efficiency at around 60GHz is used in our system. Using the downlink testbed, the influence of the fiber dispersion which has never been reported for over 50GHz is experimentally verified. Moreover, the transmission of 156Mb/s-DPSK 60GHz-band subcarrier multiplexed signals over the standard SMF is successfully demonstrated, using an optical single side band filtering technique to overcome the fiber dispersion. As a result, we will show that our system is going on a realizable system.
