Abstract
A In-Plane-Switching(IPS) mode has wide viewing angle characteristics compared with Twisted-nematic (TN) mode, but slow response and low aperture ratio become problems. For the purpose of development of IPS mode TFT-LCD for large size and high resolution monitor use, we have clarified dependence of cell and liquid crystal material parameters on applied voltage and response. On the Basis of the result, we have determined cell and liquid crystal material parameters, by taking advantage of newly developed driving method with low applied voltage and cross-talk free image. A 15.2-in. diagonal wide IPS mode TFT-LCD with fast response equivalent to IN mode, has been fabricated.
