Abstract
In recent years, commpact, portable OA and AV equipments have attract wide interest, and accordingly, blight, high-resolution reflective color LCDs without backlights are strongly required. As a reply to this requirement, a new reflective color STNLCD using ECB-effect with one polarizer and one retardation film, in which the reflector is placed inside the liquid crystal cell, is proposed. The electo-optical properties of the cell were numerically analized, and it was found from the results that several sets of solutions exist in order to obtain a blight multi-color image, but no such solutions were obtained without the use of a retardation film.
