Abstract
X-ray absorption in an object is used to obtain image contrast for conventional medical X-ray imaging using a film/screen combination with 50-100 μm spatial resolution, an X-ray image intensifier/TV camera system with 100-200 μm resolution and an X-ray CT with 500 μm resolution, On the contrary, micro-angiography and micro-tomography with 10-50 μm resolution and new methods for producing X-ray contrast using refraction and interference processes can be carried out in a synchrotron radiation facility because the facility is providing X-ray beams of very high spectral brightness and coherency. In Japan, the cancer continues to rank first among the cause of death. It is important to find small cancer lesions at the early stage, We are planning to apply new medical imaging techniques to accurate diagnosis of the early stage cancer at SPring-8.
