Abstract
We propose a new method to reduce the blocking artifacts to apply at the decoding stage of MPEG2 video bitstream. The proposed method specifies the area where the blocking artifacts occur by utilizing the information obtained from bitstream such as DCT coefficients and motion vectors. Then it reduces the blocking artifacts of the decoded picture with spatial filtering to the area where the blocking artifacts occur. We confirm that a picture quality is significantly improved using the proposed method with the computer simulation.
