Abstract
In order to investigate higher cognitive functions of humans such as language in the framework of neuroscience, we need to integrate microscopic knowledge about neural circuits obtained by animal studies with macroscopic data obtained by non-invasive brain imaging or cognitive and linguistic studies. For this purpose, we propose a new computational theory and introduce its supporting data. Our theory is in sharp contrast to the four basic assumptions made in Chomsky's generic grammar.
