Abstract
Granular hcp-(CoCrPt)_<100-X>C_X and (CoCrPt)_<100-X>(SiO_2)_X thin films have been fabricated by sputtering multilayers followed by post-deposition annealing. Magnetic and structural properties of the films have been investigated in detail. The CoCrPt-C granular film with the high coercivity of 4.4 kOe and film anisotropy of 3.6x10^6 erg/cm^3 and CoCrPt-SiO_2 granular film with high coercivity of 5.6 kOe and film anisotropy of 4.3x10^6 erg/cm^3 have been achieved. Grain isolation in magnetic layer was improved by the segregated SiO_2 or C in grain boundaries and further enhanced by post-deposition annealing. These granular films possess well in-plane preferred orientation of magnetic moment, which is desirable for longitudinal recording.
