Abstract
Methods for tracking moving objects in a motion picture have been the subject of much research. These methods include those used in the automatic video recording of lectures where it is necessary to recognize the movement of the lecturer, the "lecture facilitator, " and to control recording cameras in accordance with that movement. This paper reports on the results of experiments performed to compare various moving-object-tracking methods with the aim of establishing a lecturer-tracking method as a basis for automatic video recording of lecures in a lecture archive system. In the experiments, a number of techniques were first selected with respect to difference ectraction, types of difference-picture information, types of extracted rectangles, and picture size. Combinations of these techniques were then applied to the actual tracking of moving objects and compared from the viewpoints of accuracy and speed.
