Abstract
A medium formation technique for fabricating Co_<90>Pt_<10> magnetic film with uniform grain size was developed, whereby the signal-to-medium-noise ratio (S/Nm) can be improved. In this technique, a nucleation site layer (NSL) composed of a monolayer of closely packed the CoPt islands is produced on SiO_2/Si disk substrate. The NSL is fabricated by deposition of Co_<90>Pt_<10> thin film and heat treatment. In the deposition of Cr underlayer, the island forces nucleation of Cr grain to start from the island. In this medium formation, nucleation of Co_<90>Pt_<10> magnetic grain to start from the Cr grain to underlayer is created. Therefoe, Therefoe, Co_<90>Pt?<10> film with uniform grain size is produced.
