Abstract
In designing a read channel chip, one of the key components of a hard disk drive, we need to construct the channel model considering real channel characteristics. We study two read channel simulation systems using real data. One system directly utilizes real data acquired from a hard disk drive and shows excellent agreement with error events of the drive. The other system constructed of some signal-dependent parameters extracted from real data is AR channel model system. This system shows good agreement with the drive data in respect to error events and shortens simulation cost.
