Abstract
In order to develop a rewritable memory type display media, we have employed reflective type polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) using Smectic A liquid crystal (SmA LC) with aluminum mirror reflector. We discussed a design rule considering an influence of ambient lights, and we have optimized its device parameter (thickness of the PDLC layer). As the result, high brightness, almost the same as white paper, and high contrast were successfully obtained. In addition, we showed that the rewritable memory type display media using this PDLC had good visibility by printing black characters on a white background.
