Abstract
A tunable optical band-pass filter with a narrow bandwidth and fast tuning speed is essential for large-scale video-routing networks using dense wavelength division multiplexing. We devised a high finesse optical filter that is constructed by cascading moderate-finesse Fabry-Perot filters of different free spectral ranges. We demonstrated a two-stage Fabry-Perot optical waveguide filter. The measured transmission characteristic agreed with the theoretical curve ignoring affection of an inter-filter cavity. The number of DWDM channels with this filter was also calculated. We also analyzed the relations of full width half maximum and BER, the influence due to the deviation of the center frequency of the two-stage Fabry-Perot optical waveguide filter by the simulation. We showed the result of transmission on HDTV signals.
