The effective signal processing system for jitter-like medium noise is required in a perpendicular magnetic recording. In this paper, a post-processor is studied for PRML system using AR (Autoregressive) channel model which has a good performance in the perpendicular magnetic recording system where jitter-like medium noise is dominant. An interleaved parity check coding to search an error event and the method to identify the position of the error are proposed. Furthermore, the performance is evaluated in a real channel on a spinstand with a read/write head, which consist of a single pole type head and a GMR head, and a perpendicular recording medium. The results show that the linear density of our system improves about 16% (100kBPI) compared with that of the conventional PR1ML system.
