Abstract
A method of frequency offset detection for signal interpolated timing recovery (ITR) is proposed. The frequency offset is estimated by measuring the correlation between the preambles and reference sinusoid. When the frequency offset is not zero, the phase error changes linearly, and the frequency offset can be estimated by the gradient of the phase errors. The simulation results show that the method significantly improves the stability of the PLL. It is also shown that the zero frequency start expands the range of frequency capture range up to +/-0.8%, without causing any loss of format.
