Abstract
An evaluation method of overall picture quality on a display proposed by the previous study. The method was composed on the bases of the postulate that factors of impairment of picture quality were independent each other. But it was pointed out that there seemed to be mutual dependence between the factors. We examined by subjective experiments that whether gamma and minimum luminance have mutual dependence or not on picture quality. Evaluation pictures were made of HDTV test charts, which had different gamma and minimum luminance from the original test chart. As the results of the subjective evaluation, it was found that the impairment of picture quality for a picture had larger minimum luminance was assuaged when gamma shifted to lower values.
