Abstract

We have designed a real time vision system using a neuromophic silicon retina and FPGA. Using the system, target tracking was carried out in indoor illumination. In the tracking operation, the silicon retina extracted a moving object from background objects by subtracting consecutive image frames after smoothing. Then, the image of the extracted object was binarized and a center of the object was found as the median with FPGA circuits. The system was able to execute robust image processing under indoor illumination with a compact hardware and a low power consumption. Therefore, it is considered to be suitable for various engineering applications, e.g., robot vision and etc.
