Abstract
We have developed a software-processed level-adaptive overdrive (SLAO) method which performs Level-Adaptive Overdrive (LAO) by software processing. The LAO method is the driving method which improves the response time of LCDs, however, in order to realize the LAO, additional hardware such as a frame memory and an LAO-processing circuit, hi the SLAO method, since a video memory in PCs can be used as a frame memory, LAO-processing can be realized by software without cost-up. We performed the subjective evaluation experiments with regard to motion picture quality processed by developed SLAO algorithm, and we confirmed high-quality motion pictures were reproduced by the SLAO method. Moreover, we developed the SLAO software by Microsoft[○!R] DirectX, and we confirmed that LAO-processing can be performed in real-time by the developed SLAO software. For including the developed SLAO software into the existing note PC with LCD, high-quality motion pictures can be reproduced in PCs.
