Abstract
Construction of optical access network is going on toward realizing ICT-driven society. However, when foreseeing an era of over 20-million optical subscribers, drastic downsizing of optical cables and closures, as well as operation facility, is an important issue. In this paper, I report an outline of a novel optical fiber cable systems, where a bending-loss insensitive fibers (Hall-assisted fiber: HAF) is employed. The operation issue of the cable system is also discussed. We believe that this new optical access cable system is promising particularly for reducing operative cost (OPEX), as well as reducing provisioning cost itself (CAPEX).
