Abstract
Recently, a trend has developed to restore traditional Japanese buildings such as theaters as symbols of town renovation. However, the restoration of such buildings commonly encounters many difficulties such as a lack of documents, and different construction materials and structures between the old era and the present. Thus, virtual images of a restored building should be a great help in evaluating and discussing various restoration plans. Therefore, we have constructed a theater restoration support system using virtual environments to help with the design plan for indoor restoration of an old theater in the Saitama Prefecture of Japan. CAD data based on actual measurements were employed to construct the 3D model for the system, which ensures reproduction of the interior details of the theater.
