Abstract
We have succeeded in the fabrication of L1_0-FePt-C granular film with an average particle size of 6.7nm, a size distribution of 1.5nm with a strong c-axis texture. The double-layered media with FePt-C granular film and Fe-Ta-C nanocrystalline soft magnetic underlayer showed the thermal stability (K_uV/K_BT) of 81 and H_c distribution of 0.31, which is comparable to the current CGC media (250Gb/in^2). By adding a small amount Ag into the FePt-C granular film, the degree of L1_0 order improved to 1. (FePt)_<90>Ag_<10>-50vol.%C showed excellent mediastructure with the average particle size of 6.1nm, the size distribution of 1.8nm with a strong c-axis texture and high H_c of 37kOe, suggesting the film structure is rather promising for HAMR.
