Abstract
A scanning method based on complementary field offset sampling is proposed. It improves the resolution of RGB video projectors with a square grid pixel structure. We position the pairs of the red (R) and blue (B) pixels at a diagonal offset of one-half the pixel pitch from the green (G) pixels, alternating the position of the G pixels and the pair pixels for each field. The Nyquist frequency in both horizontal and vertical directions is doubled. The method also reduces flicker compared to methods with G, R, and B pixels at the same location and alternating at the same time. A Super Hi-vision projector was developed by this scanning method.
