Abstract

Folded dipole antenna with feed line has been already reported as a wideband antenna. This antenna can be used for a small terminal and is composed on the same plane as the ground. Relative bandwidth (VSWR≤3) is about 65%, but the antenna itself is prominent from the ground plane by 12 mm. In this report, we propose two different configurations of the antenna in 3D so that the antenna does not protrude from the ground plane as much as possible. The relative bandwidth, radiation pattern and gain are investigated. As a result, it is confirmed that that antenna prominence can be reduced and wider bandwidth over 78% and 93% are obtained by the measurement of the prototypes. Also, basic performance of the new models shows better omnidirectional characteristic and reasonable gain compared with the conventional model.
