Abstract
Experimental UHDTV satellite broadcasting and full-scale UHDTV broadcasting will begin in 2016 and 2018, respectively. For the implementation of UHDTV broadcasting, the transmission system with a 12-GHz band broadcasting satellites was standardized. This system introduced a modulation scheme of 16APSK to increase the information bitrates to 100 Mbps per transponder. Since the 16APSK requires the higher C/N, service availability and a satellite link design have been studied. In this paper, we studied service availability and satellite link designs by using the latest experiment results, which were obtained with a broadcasting satellite. Finally, we confirmed that the annual service availability of 99.9 % and the worst-month service availability of 99.7 % can be obtained with a 45-cm diameter receiving antenna in Tokyo.
