Abstract
The authors have been developing an 8K-FPU (Field Pick-up Unit) which is a 42-GHz band wireless transmission system for UHDTV (Ultra High-Definition Television) program contribution. High-capacity transmission required for 8K-FPUs is achieved by using dual polarized MIMO (Multiple-Input Multiple-Output)-OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system and wide bandwidth of 42-GHz band. With respect to OFDM systems, there is a problem of performance degradation due to PA (power amplifier) nonlinearity because OFDM signals composed of many subcarriers have a higher PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). One of the methods to reduce the performance degradation due to the PA nonlinearity is to apply a PAPR reduction technique on the OFDM signals. This paper describes the relation between the quantity of PAPR reduction and performance degradation due to the PA nonlinearity through the computer simulation. As a result, the simulation shows that the BER (Bit Error Rate) degradation can be reduced by the PAPR reduction technique.
