Abstract

It is known that amblyopia could be improved by sight training such as visual attention concentration tasks. However, the effectiveness of sight training could not evaluate objectively because amblyopia is not fully understood so far. Since visual attention influences on fixation eye movements, which are involuntary miniature movements of the eye, there is a possibility that the properties of fixation eye movements would change by sight training. In order to investigate the characteristics of fixation eye movements of amblyopic eye, we carried out an experiment which maintain visual fixation during focal attention tasks. The results of analyses of fixation eye movements suggest that microsaccade rate and microsaccade amplitude are both higher than those of normal eyes. Moreover, frequency analysis of drift eye movements indicate that the amplitude of fluctuation in low frequency component of amblyopic eyes is larger than that of normal eyes.
