Abstract

Hallux valgus(HV) are reported in 35.7% of people over the age of 65. However, skeletal deformity of the forefoot is a factor in the occurrence of HV, the mechanism of occurrence and evaluation methods have not yet been unclear. In this study we developed a 3D foot scanner using a smartphone in order to assess HV. The number of subjects was 268 people (40-89 years). The system made it possible to evaluate the great toe-first metatarsal head-heel angle, which is a direct assessment of the HV. Furthermore, it was suggested that skeletal misalignment of the foot, and forefoot width and height may contribute to the occurrence of HV, and the elements of risk indicators were clarified.
