Abstract

Two Carassius specimens were collected from Kikai Island, Kagoshima Prefecture, Japan in October 2018. After investigating the morphological features and genetic characteristics of mtDNA CR sequences, these two individuals were identified as C. langsdorfii and C. auratus (Gold fish), respectively. This record of C. langsdorfii is the first collection on Kikai Island in about 80 years. However, it is considered that all of these records were of introduced individuals.
