Thyrotoxic periodic paralysis is a disease that causes hypokalemia and muscle paralysis associated with hyperthyroidism and mostly affects men in their 20s to 40s with Graves' disease. As in our cases, the cause of the onset was exercise, alcohol consumption and heavy intake of carbohydrates. The presence of thyroid enlargement and low creatinine level in blood tests can be used as a clue for diagnosis. Because significant hypokalemia can cause fatal arrhythmias, an early correction of potassium is necessary. However attention should be paid to the correction rate so as not to reach hyperkalemia.
