Abstract

The study examines the usefulness of the solution-focused approach (SFA) from the perspective of Trauma-Informed Care (TIC) by applying it to trauma care at a foster home. Support was provided to a child suffering from neglect using SFA to build a relationship between the child and a care worker (CW). Four types of TIC were provided including, “recognizing trauma,” “prioritizing safety,” “rebuilding a sense of control,” and “strength-based approach,” which indicated that strong point-, future-, and solution-oriented SFA approaches were useful for building a relationship between the child and CW and empowering them. Psychoeducation will be required in TIC practices using SFA for children in foster homes.
