Objective: The present study aimed to clarify the concept of resilience of a family member of critically ill patients from the perspective of critical care nursing. Methods: Using Rodgers’ (2000) method of concept analysis, 34 pieces of literature were analyzed. Results: Five attributes, specifically “ability to deal with sudden difficulties”, “ability to confront reality”, “ability to receive difficult situations positively”, “ability to take care of oneself”, and “ability to supported by existing resources”; five antecedents; and four consequences, specifically “role performance based on patient recovery”, “adjustment of social life”, “maintenance and improvement of family health”, and “psychological growth obtained by overcoming trauma”, were identified. Conclusion: From the perspective of critical care nursing, by flexibly adjusting the five abilities identified as attributes, resilience of a family member of critically ill patients promotes balance between their roles as a family member and their social life, leading to personal growth. The present findings suggest the need to develop intervention methods based on a conceptual framework.
