Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigatearelationship between characteristics and length of hospitalization of patient emergencyhospitalizedforcranial nerve disease. Subjects were 133 patients who emergency hospitalized for cranial nerve disease or suspicion of itat B hospitalcranial nerves ward in A prefecture. The survey items were disease, age, Barthel Index(BI), Japan Coma Scale(JCS), Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS), existence or no-existence of limbparalysisand higher brain dysfunction, family background, length of hospitalization and social support. As a result, Subjects were 81 men(60.9%)and 52 women(39.1%), mean age: 63.3 ± 18.7 years, mean length of hospitalization: 17.5 ± 16.5 days. As tosurveycharacteristicsof patientrelated with the length of hospitalization, whenwe analyzed those itemsby using coefficient of correlation, JCS, BI, with or withoutlimbparalysis, stroke or not and higher brain dysfunctionwere significant difference(p<0.05). Therefore we suggest that accurately understand the characteristics of patients on admission is said to be important to expand support for early discharge of patients with cranial nerve disease.
