A case of complete denture treatment using a Gothic arch tracing device fabricated with digitally replicated dentures

Abstract
Purpose: Establishing a stable mandibular position is challenging in edentulous patients. While the Gothic Arch tracing method provides an objective maxillomandibular record, traditional methods using manual record bases can be unstable. This report evaluates the advantages of using a 3D-printed digital replica denture, derived from a stabilized therapeutic prosthesis, as a foundation for Gothic Arch tracing. Case Presentation: A 64-year-old male presented with impaired masticatory function due to a fractured mandibular denture and ill-fitting maxillary prosthesis. Following a diagnosis of functional instability, interim dentures were fabricated; the mandibular denture was subsequently refined into a therapeutic denture to achieve clinical stability. For the definitive prosthetic phase, the three-dimensional geometry of the stabilized therapeutic denture was captured via intraoral scanner. The data was processed using CAD software to 3D-print a digital replica, which served as the stable platform for the Gothic Arch tracing device. Conclusion: Utilizing a digital replica denture̶digitally captured from a functionally stable therapeutic prosthesis̶facilitates the rapid and precise production of a Gothic Arch tracing device. Compared to the conventional method of using a record base and occlusion rim, this digital workflow offers superior stability and clinical efficiency, ensuring a more predictable transition to the final prosthesis.
