Abstract

Japan is experiencing a scarcity of special timber required to build and repair traditional wooden buildings. The timber should be provided not only for those with publicly recognized value because the composition of the cultural value of traditional buildings is varied. Provision of timber for traditional wooden buildings inevitably faces high risk and uncertainty on the processes of forest management, wood processing, and so on. This paper suggested refinement of policy rationale and subsidiarity of the government and private sector as future issues.
