Abstract

Bali of Indonesia is one of the most well-known resort island in the world. It also has attracted a lot of tourists as the island of the Art. This study forcuses on especially the Balinese paintings which largely helped to create the image of the island of the Art. The Pita-Maha assosiation was established in 1936 to maintain the quality of newly developed Balinese paintings. It played a significant role when the artistic activities of the people in Bali have prevailed in the world as “Balinese paintigs”. Through its activities, the Pita-Maha built the concept of the “Balinese Paintinns”. In this study, the role and meaning of the Pita-Maha is examinated as the suitable environment needed for the creation and management of the art and culture.
