Abstract
Recently, new concepts like public diplomacy are recognized in the field of international cultural relations by the Japanese government, corresponding to the transformation of the international environment. This paper explores the interests and activities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Japan since 2000. Firstly, the expanded stream is explained by tracing its post-World War Two activities. Secondly, activities by the Japanese diplomatic establishments in 16 countries are examined. This paper asserts quantitatively that the utilized cultural types are diverse and different depending on targeted countries.
