Abstract

We have replaced campus-wide network of Gunma university, which is named as Gunma University Network (GUNet2016). The new network GUNet2016 is fast and stable network with implementing modern security measure. The backbone switches are connected with 10Gbps which is faster than before. All of the backbone switches are configured using redundant apparatus where the network does not stop by single point failure. Also, we have applied the network access authentication in cooperation with dynamic VLAN to the new network. By using the authentication feature of the GUNet2016, our network administrator easily identify the connected devices in case of security incidents. We have assigned subnet based on the group of the university member with help of the dynamic VLAN technology. We provide highly secured network by grouping subnets based on the authentication methods. The connection between different group of subnets are restricted by applying appropriate access control on the firewall. We describe, in the present paper, the operation and the successful case of the installation of the campus-wide network GUNet2016.
