Abstract
We report a 23-year-old woman who was referred to our hospital due to odynophagia and a high fever. Her blood exam showed a mild inflammatory reaction, and chest CT revealed a cystic mediastinal tumor of 35×35 mm behind the tracheal bifurcation. After thoracoscopic tumor extirpation, the fever subsided from the day after surgery, and the postoperative course was uneventful. The pathological diagnosis was a bronchogenic cyst. No bacterial growth was identified on culture of the cystic content. Herein, we report the rare case of a bronchogenic cyst accompanied by nonbacterial inflammation and a fever. When making a differential diagnosis in a patient with chest inflammation of unknown origin, bronchogenic cyst should be included.
