Abstract

A soft disposable retractor (ReeTrakt) developed for vessel surgery was introduced in mini-thoracotomy for video-assisted thoracic surgery. Although two rib retractors are usually inserted as a double cross to spread the intercostal space, the metallic frame and arm of the rib retractors interfere with the introduction of surgical instruments and operating procedures. We introduced a new method of wound retraction using one rib retractor and one ReeTrakt. The single rib retractor spreads the intercostal space, while the ReeTrakt soft retractor holds the latissimus dorsi muscle anteriorly. This method was easy to apply and simplified the tasks of the surgical team. The introduction of surgical instruments into the thoracic cavity was easy and unrestricted.
