Abstract
It is a question beyond our consideration to ask How do we explain and how do readers understand the history of coaching ? This report will begin with looking into the history of coaching from the standpoint of How does coaching bring out a person's ability ? and finding some historical factors in How Coaching Works. We will further examine how The International Coach Federation (known as ICF) interprets the history of coaching. We will find out lacking factors in Japanese history of coaching to reconstruct the entire history of coaching. This process necessarily requests us to introduce the following seven factors into coaching. They have a close relation to each other and have a unique status in the coaching history. First is coaching as a concept or as a training method. Second is coaching presenting a relationship among persons in an organization. Third is coaching as a skill of managers. Fourth is coachingas a professional service. Fifth is coaching as a skill taught in training fields. Sixth is coaching used in a self-enlightenment seminar. Seventh is coaching for training professionals.
