Abstract
The year 2009 marks the 50th Anniversary of the opening of National Museum of Western Art, Tokyo, in 1959 as the institution for the housing and public display of the Matsukata Collection, returned to the Japanese people by the French government. On the occasion of the anniversary, the National Museum of Western Art published a reference book titled Exhibition Chronology and Artists Index: 1960-2009. The book contains not only a comprehensive list of exhibitions held by the National Museum of Western Art, but also an index of artists and their works represented in the exhibition catalogues of the National Museum of Western Art. This paper gives a brief overview of the initiative involving the Research Library at the National Museum of Western Art.
